Fitzgerald, Staten, Bock & Osborne Earn Major Awards in 2018 CACC Women's Track & Field
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (May 21, 2018) -- Kendall Fitzgerald (Post University), Jasmine Staten (Bloomfield College), Stephanie Bock (Georgian Court University) and Jayda Osborne (Bloomfield) on Monday were named major award winners in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) for the 2018 Women's Outdoor Track & Field season, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. Nominating and voting for the major award winners was conducted by the league's 11 head coaches in the sport.
Fitzgerald was named the CACC Women's Track Athlete of the Year, as she posted a pair of wins and a third-place finish at the CACC Championship earlier this month. She won both the 1,500 and 5,000 meters in times of 4:50.01 and 18:37.46, respectively. Fitzgerald also turned in a third-place finish of the 800 meters in a time of 2:24.42.
Staten was named the CACC Women's Track Rookie of the Year after she posted a trio of wins at the CACC Championship. She won the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 14.40, while also being victorious in the 200 meters with a mark of 25.53. Staten was also part of the Bears winning 4x100 relay team that posted a time of 48.09.
Bock was crowned as the CACC Women's Field Athlete of the Year, as she won the shot put with a throw of 40-3 1/4 at the CACC Championship. She also collected a pair of runner-up finishes at the CACCs in the events of hammer (139-9) and discus (120-0).
Osborne was named the CACC Women's Field Rookie of the Year after having a solid showing in her inaugural performance at the CACC Championship. She turned in a pair of top-four finishes, including third in the pole vault (7-5 3/4) and fourth in the long jump (17-0 1/2).
In addition to those student-athletes earning major awards, Georgian Court's Mike Murawski was named the CACC Women's Track & Field Coach of the Year and Caldwell University won the Women's Team Sportsmanship Award for demonstrating sportsmanship and respect for the opposition during the season.
Murawski was named the coach of the year after guiding the Lions to the program's fifth-consecutive CACC Championship.
