Jefferson's Kylan Guerra Named 2019-20 CACC MBB Player of the Year; All-League Teams Announced
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (March 3, 2020) -- Thomas Jefferson University standout Kylan Guerra on Tuesday was named the 2019-20 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Basketball Player of the Year, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. Guerra, who also earned first-team honors, highlighted a list of other major award winners and all-conference honorees announced during the morning. The voting for the league's all-conference and major awards was conducted by the league's 14 head coaches in the sport.
In addition to Guerra, a pair of Dominican College Chargers earned major awards including Tedrick Wilcox (CACC Rookie of the Year) and Jason Copman (CACC Defensive Player of the Year). Jefferson's Herb Magee was selected as the CACC Coach of the Year.
Guerra averaged 15.8 points, 5.8 assists and 5.4 rebounds per game in helping to guide Jefferson to an 18-1 league record and the CACC South Division Regular Season Championship. He led the conference in minutes per game and also paced the league in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.3). Guerra also ranked among the top 10 in the conference in assists (2nd, 163), free throws made (4th, 108), three-point percentage (5th, 41.2%), total points (6th, 443), scoring (9th) and field goals made (9th, 137). Guerra scored in double-figures in all but four games this year including topping 20 points six times.
Wilcox was the named the league's top rookie after averaging 10.6 points per game during the regular season on 56 percent shooting from the field (4th in the CACC). He also averaged 3.3 rebounds and 1.1 assist per game. Wilcox topped double-figures in 12 games, including pumping in a season-best 29 in a win over Felician on Jan. 29.
Copman was voted as the league's top defensive player after ranking second in the league with 48 blocks and 14th with 36 steals. He dominated on the glass as the CACC's top rebounder, as he leads the conference in offensive rebounds (103), defensive rebounds (193), total rebounds (296) and rebounds per game (10.6). Copman has averaged a double-double throughout the season by also posting 10.4 points per game.
Magee was named the CACC Coach of the Year after leading Jefferson to a 25-3 overall record and 18-1 mark in league play during the regular season. Jefferson not only captured the CACC South Division Championship and the No. 1 overall seed for this week's CACC Championship Tournament, but also a No. 3 ranking in the NCAA Division II East Region Rankings. Magee reached 1,100-career wins earlier in the season.
University of the Sciences won the league's CACC Team Sportsmanship Award for men's basketball by demonstrating outstanding character and sportsmanship throughout the 2019-20 campaign.
