Viva Italia! GCU Student-Athletes Cedres & Howard Studying in Rome, Blogging Experience
Rome, Italy- Georgian Court University
student-athletes Francheska
Cedres and Isalin
Howard are enjoying the experience of a
lifetime as both have been provided the opportunity to study abroad
this summer. Both have been calling The American University of Rome
(AUR) home since May 27, along with three other Georgian Court
students, while keeping a daily blog entitled "GCU Fab 5 in
Roma."
Cedres, a member of the Lions' volleyball squad, and Howard,
a student-athlete on the GCU cross country and track & field
roster, will study at AUR until July 11 in a program that provides
students with a multi-faceted experience wherein issues of
globalization, responsible corporate-society interface, and
innovation entrepreneurship are highlighted.
During the eight-week program, a group of distinguished
outside leaders from Italian business and politics will help
navigate the global business environment through innovative
coursework, company site visits including, an Italian Parliament
tour, a visit to the U.S. Embassy, and either an internship or
service project focused on either an Italian business, governmental
agency, or non-profit organization.
Students will become immersed in the Italian culture through
an intensive cultural immersion course delivered by AUR faculty,
through living in an authentic Italian neighborhood, and by working
in and with Italian organizations.
While the program is based in Rome, it is the central focus
of the program to allow students to garner a more comprehensive
view of Italy. For this reason, trips are planned to other regions
including Tuscany (Pisa, Florence, Siena) and Compania (Naples,
Sorrento, Pompeii).
