CACC Notes
Caldwell - The Cougars won all six of their games last week, including two against CACC foe Post on Apr. 8. Caldwell also swept Pace on Apr. 7 and Adelphi on Apr. 9 in a pair of non-conference doubleheaders. Against Adelphi, sophomore pitcher Brittany Pulido tossed a two-hit shutout for her third win of the week. Pulido was 3-0 with an earned run average of 0.61, and did not walk a batter while fanning 17 in 23 innings. In the second game with Adelphi, freshman Marisa Tamez completed a five-run seventh inning with a walk-off, bases-loaded single that scored two runs and gave the Cougars a 9-8 victory. Junior Kyrie Timbrook blasted a three-run home run in the inning, which began with Caldwell trailing 8-4.
Felician - In Felician's last eight games, freshman OF/SS Grace Keller has raised her batting average 54 points to its current .319. Transfer P Kelly Hughes picked up her first win as a Golden Falcon when she tossed an eight-inning four-hitter at Nyack in Game 2 on Wednesday. She struck out a season-high six and walked none. Sophomore IF Lauren DeGrushe had her second career multi-home run game in that contest.
Georgian Court - After last week's rainouts at Holy Family (4/7) and vs. Nyack (4/11), GCU is now scheduled to play 10 games this week (4/13 vs. Nyack; 4/14 @ Holy Family; 4/16 @ Adelphi; 4/18 vs. Post; 4/19 @ Dominican). The Lions were ranked #14 in the latest NFCA Top-25 Poll, up from #16.
Holy Family - Head coach Mickey McGroarty won his 400th career
game after Holy Family took game one of a double-header against the
University of the Sciences on Thursday. McGroarty is in his 18th
season at Holy Family and, after a game two win, is now 401-298-4
with a winning percentage of .573. This week is very busy for the
Tigers, who will play four double-headers in four days: vs.
Caldwell (Mon.), vs. Georgian Court (Tue.), at Wilmington (Del.)
(Wed.) and vs. Chestnut Hill (Thu.).
Philadelphia - The Lady Rams are on a four-game winning streak and
have gone 6-2 in the month of April. The team is getting big
contributions from a slew of freshmen including pitcher Ali
Schmidt, Danielle Parisi and Katie Renner, while veterans Jen
Richard, Kristin Giamatteo and Maggie Desmond continue to be solid
both offensively and defensively.
USP - Last week's doubleheader sweeps by Philadelphia and Holy Family extended the Devils' losing streak to six games. Junior Samantha Tu (Trevose, Pa.) tied the USP single season record for doubles with two vs. Holy Family; giving her 11 for the season. Junior Bethanne Bossert (Philadelphia, Pa.) tied the USP single season mark for sacrifice hits with a SAC vs. Philadelphia, giving her 11 for the season; she is already USP's career leader with 21. Bossert's next start will be the 100th start of her career, becoming just the fourth USP player to start in 100 games. Junior pitcher Rachel Morgan (Clackamas, Ore.) needs eight more strikeouts to become the first USP softball player to record 300 in a career.
