RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Recent high-school graduate Johanna Gonzalez of West New York signed a national letter of intent to continue her softball career at Felician College during the recently-concluded NCAA signing period, Felician head coach Kathy Hill announced today. Additionally, transfer Kristina Jimenez of West Milford has inked an athletic financial aid agreement to join the Golden Falcons.
Gonzalez, a 5-foot-5 catcher/first-baseman, is a 2008 graduate of North Bergen High. She was a first-team All-Hudson County honoree as a senior, and also played volleyball and basketball. Gonzalez, who plays for the North Jersey Bandits summer travel program, intends to enroll in Felician's pre-physical therapy program.
Jimenez played at Ramapo College as a true freshman in 2008. Scholastically, she was a three-time All-Passaic County and three-time all-conference selection for West Milford High, and was chosen third-team all-state as a senior. A 5-foot-7 left-handed pitcher, she helped the Highlanders to two league championships and two county titles. Last season, she was 2-1 with one save and a 2.80 earned-run average in eight appearances as the Roadrunners reached the NCAA Division III Tournament. A teammate of Gonzalez's on the North Jersey Bandits, Jimenez expects to major in elementary education.
Gonzalez and Jimenez join shortstop/pitcher Grace Keller (Hoboken, NJ/Holy Family Academy) in Hill's 2008 recruiting class. Felician is a member of NCAA Division II and plays in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. Last year's Golden Falcons posted an overall won-lost record of 16-23.
