RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Five members of the 2008 Felician College softball team have been honored with the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) girls got game Scholar-Athlete Award.
The award is given to players for any NFCA-member coach who post
a 3.50 or better grade-point average for the academic year which
includes that spring’s playing season. Last year’s
entire senior class reached that milestone in 2007-08 –
pitcher Dara DeSocio (Cliffside Park, NJ/Paramus Catholic),
outfielder Katie Spera (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Township) and
catcher Heather Van Dyke (West Milford, NJ/West Milford).
Also earning the award were sophomore infielders Rebecca Dodd
(Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) and Hope Van Dyke (West Milford, NJ/West
Milford). Under seventh-year head coach Kathy Hill, Felician
registered a team cumulative GPA of 3.220. That total put the
Golden Falcons among the top 35 Division II teams in the country,
according to the NFCA.
