RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Felician College graduate student Suzanne Albert has been named as one of 10 finalists for the 2009 V Foundation Comeback Award. The award, presented anually since 2001 by the V Foundation for Cancer Research, is open to male or female college basketball student-athletes in all divisions who have accomplished a personal triumph in the face of adversity.
Albert, who was nominated by the Felician athletics department, is one of only two finalists from non-Division I schools. Her story of fighting multiple sclerosis and a serious knee injury to return to collegiate volleyball and basketball is chronicled at http://www.felicianathletics.com/content/view/1136/39/.
The V Foundation Comeback Award is presented in memory of Jim Valvano, the late basketball coach and ESPN commentator, whose personal battle with cancer inspired the creation of the V Foundation.
