NEW HAVEN, CT - Malcolm Ingram of Philadelphia University has garnered Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week accolades for the week ending Sunday, Feb. 1. Justin Swidowski of Holy Family University picked up Rookie of the Week honors for the fifth time this season.
Ingram, a 6-4 junior forward from Philadelphia, PA, averaged a double-double in leading the Rams to a 2-0 week. He posted 17.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per-game and shot 45.8-percent (11-for-24) from the field. He notched 20 points and 14 boards in a home win over Post University.
Swidowski, a 6-8 freshman forward from Delran, NJ, helped lead Holy Family to a 2-0 week by averaging 19.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 4.0 blocks per-game while shooting 60.0-percent (15-for-25) from the field. He registered 21 points and 10 rebounds against Goldey-Beacom and 17 points, eight rebounds and six blocks vs. Felician.
Honorable Mention
Manny Perez, Caldwell (Sr., F, 6-7, Egg Harbor Twp., NJ) - Recorded 24 points in each of his games last week and added 7.0 rebounds per-contests.
Devon Young, Felician (So., G/F, 6-3, Monmouth Jct., NJ) - Averaged 16.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per-game in a 1-1 week.
Adewale Adefemi, USP (So., F, 6-4, Chesilhurst, NJ) - Averaged 13.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per-game in a 2-0 week for the Devils.
Gage Daye, Bloomfield (Sr., G, 6-2, Newark, NJ) - Tallied 18
points, four assists and four steals in a win over Wilmington.
CACC Notes
Bloomfield - The Deacon men stretched their winning streak to 10
games with Saturday's 92-39 victory over Wilmington University. A
balanced Deacon offensive attack saw five players post double
figures in scoring in the victory. Gage Daye led BC with 18 points
on 8-14 scoring and he also tallied four steals and dished out four
assists. Jeff Sawyerr had a season high 16 points and was a force
in the paint on both sides of the ball. Sawyerr made 7 of his 9
attempts from the floor and also pulled down nine rebounds. Wilson
Pilarte registered 13 points on 5-8 shooting and also tallied a
team- high five assists. Ahmad Harris scored 12 points in the win
with four assists and three steals. Omari Knox also put up 11
points and grabbed six boards.
Caldwell - The Cougars lost a pair of conference games on the road at Post and Dominican last week to fall into third place in the CACC North Division. Senior forward Manny Perez scored 24 points apiece in each game to raise his team-leading average to 18.6 points per contest. Perez, who was the co-CACC Player of the Week last week, also was named the co-ECAC Player of the Week and was included on the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association Weekly Honor Roll for the third time this season. Caldwell hosts Post on Tuesday before playing USP on Saturday in Philadelphia.
Felician - The Golden Falcons have alternated wins and losses
for their last 10 games, a stretch which dates back to Dec. 23.
Felician's victory at Chestnut Hill on Thursday allowed it to match
its win total for all of 2007-08, with 10.
Holy Family - Holy Family won of a pair of nail-biters to move its overall record to 6-14 and, more importantly, 5-4 in the CACC. On Tuesday, Holy Family edged out Goldey-Beacom, 70-67. Forward Justin Swidowski led four Tigers in double figure scoring with 21 points to go with 10 rebounds. Then on Saturday, the Tigers rallied from behind to defeat Felician, 68-66. Swidowski recorded 17 points and six blocked shots. Guard Pat Kelly added 17 points and guard Quincy Marshall dished out a career-high 11 assists. The Tigers committed a season-low eight turnovers. Head coach Alfred Johnson is four wins away from 100 at Holy Family. This week, Holy Family hits the road to face USP (Tuesday) and Post (Saturday).
Nyack - After dropping two tough games to Dominican and Post,
Nyack rallied to pick up a win over Goldey-Beacom on Saturday to
close out the week. Senior PG Valiant Jones is closing in on 100
assists for the season, as he currently has 92 to remain one of the
leaders in the CACC in that category. Nyack plays two road games
this week on Tuesday at Bloomfield and Saturday at Chestnut Hill.
Philadelphia - The Rams completed another undefeated week and has raised their winning streak to eight games. The Rams travel to Goldey-Beacom College on February 5th and come home to play the CACC North Division leader, Bloomfield College, on February 7th. Junior forward Malcolm Ingram registered his 1,000th career point on January 31st. He is averaging 15.4 points and 8.7 rebounds per-game on the season and shooting 45.5% from the field.
USP - USP has now won three straight games to even their league
record at 4-4. USP is just ½ game out of second place in the
division. After going three games without a three-point field goal,
sophomore Tramar Beaman (Williamstown, N.J.) recovered his shooting
touch to make six of 10 three-point shots this week to up his
shooting percentage from beyond the arc past 50% (51.2%). Sophomore
Adewale Adefemi (Chesilhurst, N.J.) had a career high 16 rebounds
vs. Dominican. Adefemi has now recorded three consecutive
double-doubles. Senior Mark Concannon (Springfield, Pa.) equaled
his career high on Saturday with seven points vs. Dominican.
