SWIDOWSKI NAMED ECAC ROOKIE OF THE YEAR; FIVE PICK UP ALL-STAR HONORS

NEW HAVEN, CT (April 3, 2009) - Five men's basketball student-athletes from Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) institutions have earned Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) All-Star honors and Holy Family's Justin Swidowski was named the 2008-09 Rookie of the Year in an announcement made today.
Gage Daye of Bloomfield College was the lone CACC representative on the first team after an outstanding sophomore season for the Deacons. Daye, a first team All-CACC pick, led the CACC in scoring (19.7 per-game) and steals (2.53) while ranking 13th in assists (2.97) and 12th in three-pointers made per-game (1.53).
Swidowski emerged for Holy Family in his first collegiate season and was named the CACC Rookie of the Year along with second team All-CACC accolades. He averaged 16.1 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.29 blocks per-game while shooting 55.1-percent from the field and 75.6-percent from the free-throw line. He ranked second in the conference in field-goal percentage and blocks per-game.
The four CACC representatives on the second team include Malcolm Ingram and Russell Frederick of Philadelphia University, Manny Perez of Caldwell College and Omari Knox of Bloomfield.
The junior duo of Ingram and Frederick led Philadelphia to a South Division regular-season crown and the CACC Tournament championship this season. Both were named first team All-CACC and Frederick was the CACC Tournament MVP. Frederick averaged 16.3 points, 4.45 assists and 1.42 steals per-game and shot 45.7-percent from the field. Ingram sported averages of 15.6 points and 8.4 rebounds per-game.
Knox, a senior, was voted the CACC Player of the Year after ranking second in the conference in scoring (18.8) and first in three-point field goals made with 91 (3.03 per-game). Furthermore, he stood 11th in free-throw shooting (.718) and ninth in steals (1.63). Knox recently played in the NABC/NCAA Division II All-Star game in Springfield.
Perez, a senior, averaged 18.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game to earn first team All-CACC accolades. Perez also played in the NABC/NCAA All-Star game last week. This past season, Perez led the CACC in field goal percentage (.577) while ranking third in scoring and fourth in rebounding.
