NEW HAVEN, CT - The NCAA released its first Division II Men's and Women's Regional Basketball polls for the 2008-09 season today, and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) institutions are included in both. For the men, Bloomfield College stands seventh and Philadelphia University sits ninth in the East Region. Holy Family University is ranked fifth on the women's side.
Bloomfield is currently riding a nine-game winning streak and has taken command of the CACC North Division with an 8-0 record to go with a 14-5 overall mark. Sophomore guard Gage Daye was named the CACC Player of the Week for two consecutive weeks and currently stands fourth in the CACC with 16.6 points per-game. Senior guard Omari Knox paces the conference in scoring with an average of 20.6 ppg.
Philadelphia currently leads the South Division with a perfect 7-0 record along with a 14-3 overall mark. The Rams have won six straight games and nine of their last 10. The squad is paced by junior forward Malcolm Ingram and junior point guard Russell Frederick. Ingram leads the CACC in rebounds per-game (8.4) and ranks 10th in scoring (15.1), while Frederick leads the conference with 4.53 assists per-game and is third with 17.3 ppg.
The Holy Family women have won 11 consecutive games and 57 straight against CACC competition. The Tigers are 17-4 overall and 10-0 in conference play. The team is led by sophomore forward Catherine Carr, who checks in with averages of 14.7 ppg and 6.3 rpg. The Tigers are among national leaders in defense by allowing only 47.0 points per-game, which ranks third in Division II. The Tigers also rank fifth nationally by holding opponents to 31.8-percent field-goal shooting.
