FELICIAN CAPTURES SECOND STRAIGHT CACC MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (October 23, 2011) – Felician College placed five runners in the top 10 to capture its second straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Cross Country championship Sunday afternoon at Belmont Plateau in Phila delphia, PA. The Golden Falcons scored 25 points, well ahead of runner-up Philadelphia University (67) and third place Wilmington University (71). Felician's Rob Albano won the race to lead the Golden Falcons. Felician head coach John Brennan was voted Coach of the Year, and FC also won the Team Sportsmanship Award.
Albano and Wilmington junior Bill Steele battled for the majority of the race until the Felician junior pulled away on the final loop, finishing in 26:35. Steele was next in 26:45, after winning the race last season as a sophomore.
Behind Albano were five more runners who claimed All-Conference honors. Junior Taylor Trumbetti and senior James Vander Wiele placed third and fourth, respectively, with times of 26:58 and 27:19. Junior Tim Kicha claimed an eighth-place finish (28:06), while freshman Kennan Huggins-Filozof (28:08) was right behind him in ninth. Freshman Stephen Omari rounded out the Felician All-Conference runners for Felician, placing 12th in 28:30.
Philadelphia was led by freshman Tim Malloy, who claimed Rookie of the Year honors by placing fifth in 27:33. Tyler Dye and Kip Kirui were 10th and 11th, respectively, by running times of 28:20 and 28:26.
In addition to Steele, freshman Richie Mitten earned All-Conference honors for Wilmington, placing sixth in 27:51.
