PHILADELPHIA, PA - Goldey-Beacom College swept the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, 3-0 (30-27, 30-25, 30-22), to win the 2005 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Volleyball Tournament Championship today at the Bobby Morgan Arena on the USP campus. By virtue of winning the conference championship, Goldey-Beacom gains an automatic berth into the NCAA Division II Volleyball Championships. The brackets for the tournament will be released Sunday evening.
Sophomore middle hitter Ashley Carberry led Goldey-Beacom (25-6) with 15 kills and seven blocks, while Norah Burdette added 15 kills at a .414 percentage. Clare Phillips led the Lightning with 13 digs, while Jill Murphey contributed 11 digs.
The Devils, who conclude the season with a 19-13 mark, were led by senior outside hitter Emily Roth's 18 kills and 10 digs. Lindsey Wenderoth added 17 kills and seven digs, while freshman libero Claire Tauschek contributed eight digs.
At the conclusion of the tournament, Carberry was named the Tournament Most Valuable Player. She also led the Lightning in a 3-0 semifinal victory over Wilmington on Friday with 15 kills and five blocks.
