2022 CACC WTEN All-Conference & Major Awards
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Oct. 19, 2022) -- Thomas Jefferson University standout Natalie Wagner on Wednesday was named the 2022 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Tennis Player of the Year, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. In addition to the major honor, Wagner also garnered a spot on the All-CACC First Team, as the voting for the league's all-conference and major awards was conducted by the league's six head coaches in the sport.
Joining Wagner as major award winners were Wilmington University's Carmelle Vial (CACC Rookie of the Year) and Troy Donato (CACC Coach of the Year). Dominican University was named the CACC Team Sportsmanship Award winner for demonstrating outstanding character during the 2022 campaign.
Wagner is 12-2 overall this season including a team-best 6-1 mark at the No. 1 singles position in the Rams' lineup. Wagner teamed up with Islay Thornicroft the most this season in doubles' play as they went 8-1 with a 6-1 mark at the No. 2 spot.
Vial is 7-0 in dual-match competition this fall including a 4-0 mark at the No. 1 position. She also made it to the quarterfinals of the ITA East Region Tournament in late September. Vial was also placed on the All-CACC First Team for her brilliant play in the regular season.
Donato has done a masterful job of guiding the Wildcats once again in 2022, as the Wildcats claimed the CACC Regular Season Championship and enter this weekend's CACC Women's Tennis Championship as the No. 1 seed. WilmU captured the CACC Championship a year ago.
