USciences Karla Miletic Named CACC WTEN Player of the Year for Second Time in a Row
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (October 17, 2017) -- University of the Sciences standout Karla Miletic on Tuesday was named the 2017 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Tennis Player of the Year, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. It marks the second year in a row that Miletic -- a sophomore -- was named the conference's top player. The player-of-the-year award, all other major awards and all-conference honors are voted on by the league's nine head coaches that compete in the sport in the CACC.
In addition to Miletic, Goldey-Beacom College's Fredrika Regner was named the CACC Rookie of the Year, while her leader, Joe Kissel, was named the CACC Coach of the Year.
Miletic is 10-2 this season, including an 8-1 mark at No. 1 singles. She has won three straight heading into this week's CACC Championship tournament. In addition to being named the player of the year, Miletic was also placed on the All-CACC First Team for the second-consecutive season. She earned player of the year, first-team all conference and rookie of the year honors as a freshman during the 2016 campaign.
Regner went 9-2 in singles play during the regular season, including a 6-1 mark at No. 4 singles and identical 1-0 records at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. She also teammed with Anna Hortelano Pey to go 14-1 in doubles play in 2017. They combined to go 8-0 at No. 2 doubles.
Kissel was named the coach of the year, as he led the Lightning to their second-straight CACC regular season championship. Goldey-Beacom is 9-0 overall this season, including an 8-0 mark in conference play, as the Lightning locked up the regular season crown on Sunday with a 5-4 win over Concordia College in the regular season finale.
In addition to those awards, the other major award handed out on Tuesday was Holy Family University claiming the 2017 Women's Tennis Team Sportsmanship Award for demonstrating outstanding character and commitment during the fall season.

All honorees listed above will be honored Thursday night at the CACC Women's Tennis Championship Banquet on the eve of the tournament's semifinals hosted by Post University. The 2017 CACC Women's Tennis Championship kicks off Tuesday with a pair of first-round games, including No. 6 Post at No. 3 Wilmington and No. 5 Jefferson at No. 4 USciences. The Post/WilmU winner will advance to the semis on Friday and will face top-seeded G-B at 10 a.m. The Jefferson/USciences winner will face second-seeded Concordia in Friday's other semifinal at 1 p.m. Friday's two semifinal winners will advance to Saturday's championship final at 12 p.m.
