PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (October 26, 2014) - The Concordia College women's tennis team made it six titles in a row on Sunday, as the Clippers won the 2014 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Tennis Championship with a 5-2 triumph in the final over second-seeded Goldey-Beacom College on the Chestnut Hill College campus. The top-seeded Clippers capped their fall season with an 11-0 record, while the Lightning fell to 11-3.
It also marked the second conference title for Concordia this season, as it claimed the league's regular season crown last week in advance of this week's championship tournament.
Romana Tabak was crowned the most valuable player of the 2014 championship, as her stellar play at both doubles and singles helped lead the way for Concordia during the weekend. Tabak teammed with Costanza Mecchi in doubles play to get things started on Sunday, as the duo earned an 8-2 triumph over Filipa Correia and Maria Victoria for Concordia's first team point. Tabak then claimed the Clippers' first singles point as she quickly dispatched Laura Moreno, 6-2, 6-2.
Mecchi, who landed on the CACC All-Tournament Team, capped the championship for the Clippers as her win at No. 2 singles (6-4, 6-1 over Victoria) gave them their fifth team point, and set off a celebration that cemented the program's status as one of the elite in all of NCAA Division II.
Steffy Canals was the third Clipper to land on the all-tournament team, as she picked up a pair of wins on Sunday, including a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Correia. For the weekend, she was a perfect 4-0 with two wins apiece in doubles and singles.
Goldey-Beacom got wins from Stephanie Puentes Robinson and Amina Mrad in doubles, while the latter also nabbed a singles win before the afternoon was over. Both student-athletes turned in strong performances throughout the weekend, and were named to the all-tournament team for their efforts.
The other member of the Lightning squad to be named to the all-tournament team was Julia Gutierrez, who picked up an important singles win in Saturday's 5-3 triumph over Chestnut Hill in the semifinals, while also leading her solo match on Sunday at the time it was called when Concordia capped its title run.
The seventh student-athlete to earn all-tournament recognition was Chestnut Hill's Charlotte Dawson, who earned a spot on the squad after picking up a pair of wins at No. 1 doubles and singles in the semifinals on Saturday.

Saturday Semifinals Recap: Top-two seeds Concordia & Goldey-Beacom advance to Sunday's final
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (October 25, 2014) -- The teams have been determined for Sunday's final in the 2014 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship, as the top-two seeds in the tournament survived Saturday's semifinals to earn the right to play for the league title. Top-seeded and regular season champion Concordia College dispatched fourth-seeded Philadelphia University, 5-1, in Saturday's first semifinal contest, while second-seeded Goldey-Beacom College capped the day with a 5-3 triumph over third-seeded Chestnut Hill College, which is serving as a fine host for this weekend's championship.
Romana Tabak, the 2014 CACC Player of the Year, had a perfect day for Concordia as she teamed with fellow All-CACC First-Team honoree Costanza Mecchi to pick up an 8-0 win in doubles, and then earned a 6-0, 6-0 triumph in singles action against PhilaU's Julia Arruda, who was also named to the all-conference first-team earlier in the week.
Tabak's brilliant play set the tone in the morning for the Clippers, who also received doubles wins from the teams of Linda Eliasson/Steffy Canals and Alla Kravchuk/Valeriia Cheban. In singles play, Tabak was joined in victory by Canal, who downed Anna Slomowitz, 6-0, 6-2, to end the match early for the Clippers.
Saturday's second semifinal had the makings early of an upset as third-seeded Chestnut Hill jumped to a 2-1 lead after doubles play over second-seeded Goldey-Beacom. Iman Williams-Mulesa and Axe Owens got things started with an 8-2 triumph, while Charlotte Dawson and Morgan Oechsle pulled out a thrilling 9-7 triumph in the final doubles match of the day.
However, the Lightning proved to be too tough in singles play, as Julia Gutierrez earned the first win in that style with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph, while Nina Sengl followed moments later with a nearly identical score of 6-1, 6-0.
Stephanie Puentes Robinson, a four-time all-conference honoree over her four-year career, capped the match with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Oechsle. Amina Mrad was the other Goldey-Beacom standout to earn a win in singles, as she picked up a 7-5, 6-1 victory.
