CONCORDIA WINS FOURTH STRAIGHT CACC WOMEN’S TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (October 21, 2012) – No. 1 seed Concordia College defeated No. 3 seed Chestnut Hill College 5-2 on Sunday afternoon in Philadelphia to capture the 2012 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship.
The tournament title marks the fourth straight for the Clippers, who also claimed the 2012 CACC regular season title. Concordia, which has won each CACC Women's Tennis Championship dating back to the 2009 season, earn the conference's automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championship.
The 2012 CACC Women's Tennis All-Tournament Team consisted of Luisa Candido (Concordia), Yuliya Plevako (Concordia), Ana Mendes (Concordia), Anastasiya Shcherbakova (Chestnut Hill), Kelly Dennis (Chestnut Hill), Stephanie Fuentes Robinson (Goldey-Beacom) and Filipia Corria (Goldey-Beacom).
Concordia's Plevako was recognized as the tournament's most valuable player after enjoying a perfect weekend that saw her post a pair of wins in No. 3 singles and No. 1 doubles action.
The Clippers opened the match by taking two of the three doubles competitions as the tandem of Yuliya Plevako/Luisa Candido handed Chestnut Hill's Ana Shcherbakova/Maria Parapouras an 8-4 setback in No. 1 doubles. Concordia also was victorious in the No. 3 doubles clash by an 8-5 margin. Chestnut Hill's Kelly Dennis/Morgan Oechsle garnered a win for the Griffins in No. 2 doubles by a count of 8-6.
Concordia's Mendes, Plevako and Estelle Fougeray each won their singles matches in straight sets to seal the championship for the Clippers.
Concordia's overall record now stands at a perfect 10-0, while Chestnut Hill slips to 11-4 on the season.
