MANOUKIAN, NEILL AND PAREKH EARN TITLES AT CACC INDIVIDUAL TENNIS TOURNAMENT
Oct 21, 2006

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Caldwell College senior Oksana Manoukian earned the singles title at the 2006 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Tennis Individual Championships at the Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis Center in Philadelphia. The doubles championship was won by the tandem of junior Lauren Neill and freshman Rupali Parekh of Holy Family.

Manoukian was able to win the singles tournament after her opponent in the final, junior Maddie Smith of Philadelphia University, was forced to retire due to an injury sustained in the second set. Manoukian, the #2 seed for the tournament, lost the first set, 2-6, then won the second set, 6-4, before Smith was forced to retire.

Manoukian defeated Philadelphia's Katie Stracquatanio (10-3) in the first round, Quena Borres of Holy Family in the quarterfinals (10-0) and Parekh in the semifinals (6-2, 7-6) to reach the title match.

Smith, who was the top seed, was able to advance by defeating fourth-seeded Neill, 6-2, 6-1, in a semifinal match earlier in the day.

Neill and Parekh won their doubles championship by upending the Georgian Court tandem of Dunja Dunda and Alexa Wilkinson by a score of 8-4.

At the conclusion of the tournament, Manoukian, Smith, Neill, Parekh, Dunja and Wilkinson were named to the 2006 All-CACC team. Manoukian was named the Player of the Year and Parekh earned Rookie of the Year accolades. Holy Family head coach, Albert Stroble, was voted by his peers as the Coach of the Year and USP was given the annual Team Sportsmanship Award.
