KILLION NAMED CACC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR FOR SECOND STRAIGHT SEASON
Feb 27, 2008

NEW HAVEN, CT-Holy Family University senior point guard Kelly Killion has garnered Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Basketball Player of the Year accolades, as the All-Conference teams were released today. This is the second consecutive season that Killion has been named Player of the Year. Holy Family freshman forward Catherine Carr has been named Rookie of the Year, while Holy Family head coach Mike McLaughlin has been tabbed Coach of the Year for the 12th time in his 13 years at Holy Family. Felician College and Chestnut Hill College tied in voting for the annual Team Sportsmanship Award. The Conference's 13 head coaches conducted the voting. The announcement was made by Commissioner Daniel Mara of Waterbury.

Killion and the Tigers are currently ranked fourth in the nation and sit atop the Division II Northeast Region poll. Killion, who was named to the All-CACC first team for the third time, leads the conference with a 2.77 assist-to-turnover ratio, which ranks fourth in the nation. Killion, a 5-6 senior point guard from Pennsauken, NJ, has committed only 43 turnovers in 26 games, while playing 32 minutes per-game. Killion ranks second in the CACC in assists per-game (4.58) and 3-point field goals made per-game (2.81), eighth in 3-point field-goal percentage (.348) and 14th with an average of 12.6 points per-game.

Carr picked up Rookie of the Year honors after emerging as the leading scorer for the Tigers this season at 15.6 ppg, good enough for fourth in the CACC. The 6-0 forward from Bernardsville, NJ, also stands 11th in the CACC in free-throw percentage (.765). In addition, Carr was selected to the All-CACC second team, which is the highest position that a freshman has been voted since the 2004-05 season.

McLaughlin continued his strangle-hold on the CACC Coach of the Year award, as he earned the honor for the 12th time in his 13 seasons at the helm of the Tigers. Entering the week, Holy Family has won 65 consecutive CACC regular-season games and is currently 26-0 overall and 17-0 in conference play. The Tigers are the defending CACC Tournament Champions.

In addition to Killion, the All-CACC first team includes University of the Sciences sophomore center Erin Chesnavich, Goldey-Beacom College senior forward Toni Jones, Philadelphia University sophomore center Jessica Romano and Wilmington University sophomore forward Amelia Simmons.

Chesnavich paces the conference in field-goal percentage (56.3-percent) and she ranks 17th nationally in the category. She also ranks third in the CACC with 1.52 blocks, sixth in scoring with 14.5 points per-game and seventh with 8.9 rebounds per-game.

Jones leads the CACC in scoring and is seventh nationally with an average of 21.7 points per-game. She has notched 30 points in a game four times this season, including three consecutive games from February 16-23. She is just 23 point shy of 2,000 for her career. She also leads the conference in free-throw percentage (.855) and is eighth in rebounds (8.5) and third in steals (2.12). Jones was a second team All-CACC selection last year.

Romano ranks second in the conference in scoring at 17.5 ppg and she is also third with 9.8 rebounds per-game and sixth in free-throw percentage (.807).

Simmons, who was the CACC Rookie of the Year and a third team All-CACC pick last season, leads the CACC in rebounds this season with 10.3 per-game and she is also third in points (17.1), fifth in blocks (1.38) and ninth in free-throw percentage (.776).

The All-CACC second team consists of Holy Family's Catherine Carr, Wilmington senior center Nordia Henry, Dominican sophomore forward Adele Laskowski and senior guard Dana Rotio, and Philadelphia senior forward Ashley Webster.

Rotio leads the CACC with 3.31 steals per-game and ranks 18th nationally, while Webster paces the league with 4.62 offensive rebounds per-game. Webster also stands second in rebounds with 10.2 per-contest, fourth with 2.00 steals per-game and fifth with 15.2 ppg. Rotio is fifth with 3.46 assists per-game. Carr is the fourth-leading scorer in the league with 15.6 ppg, while Henry is fourth in rebounds (9.6) and blocks (1.42) and fifth in field-goal percentage (48.1).

The five players named to the All-CACC third team are Bloomfield College senior guard Ciera Darby, Wilmington senior guard Sherrelle Holmes, Caldwell College junior forward Mackenzie Lynch, Holy Family sophomore center Christine McCollum and USP junior forward Allison Weiss.
