TIMBROOK NAMED CACC SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (May 4, 2010) – Kyrie Timbrook of Caldwell College has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Softball Player of the Year, as the 2010 All-CACC team was announced Tuesday. Caldwell’s Brittany Pulido was tabbed Pitcher of the Year, while Dominican College’s Delaney Childers secured the title of Rookie of the Year. Dean Johnson of Caldwell was voted Coach of the Year and Chestnut Hill College claimed the annual Team Sportsmanship Award.
Timbrook, a senior first baseman from Los Gatos, Calif., leads the conference in both batting average (.456) and slugging percentage (.738). She also leads the pack in hits with 73 and total bases with 118. Timbrook concluded the regular-season with eight home runs, 21 doubles and 59 runs batted in. Her 21 doubles is a CACC single-season record and her RBI total ties the conference mark. She also sported a .503 on-base percentage and had only two errors all season at first base to earn a .996 fielding percentage. Timbrook has been a first team All-Conference selection in each of the last three seasons.
Pulido, a junior right-hander from Ojai, Calif., finished the regular season with a 19-4 record and was the conference leader with a 0.97 earned-run average by allowing only 21 earned runs and 117 hits in 151.0 innings of work. She also walked only 14 batters and struck out 79. Opponents hit just .212 against her. Pulido was also a first team All-Conference pick in 2009 and was a second team selection as a freshman.
Childers, a pitcher/outfielder from Johnstown, Ohio, earned the Rookie of the Year title as a result of her pitching prowess combined with her skills at the plate. She finished the regular-season with a .393 batting average to rank second on her team, and checks in with 33 RBI, 13 doubles and 44 runs scored. As a pitcher, she concluded the regular-season with a 20-7 record and a 1.53 era. She fanned 130 batters in 178.1 innings and walked only 20.
Dean Johnson was named CACC Coach of the Year for the fifth time in his 15-year run as head man of the Cougars. He led the team to a 22-3 conference record in 2010 and the Cougars set a school-record for regular-season wins with their current mark of 40-12. Johnson guided the Cougars to a conference regular-season co-championship this season and the squad will be the No. 2 seed for the upcoming CACC Tournament.
There are numerous repeat selections to the All-Conference first team this season in addition to Timbrook and Pulido. Fellow Cougar Danielle Genovese, a shortstop, picked up first team honors for the fourth time in her career, while sophomore teammate Kelly Ryan was a first team pick in the outfield for the second straight season. Dominican senior 3B Cara Piasecki claimed her third straight first team nod. Georgian Court sophomore designated player Brooke Hull and Wilmington University senior 3B Lindsay Watson each garnered first team accolades for the second consecutive season.
