FITZGERALD HITS TWO GRAND SLAMS IN SWEEP OF TIGERS
Orangeburg, N.Y. (4/1/19) Junior Samantha Fitzgerald (Fishkill, N.Y.) blasted two grand slam home runs this afternoon as the Dominican College softball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from the visiting Tigers of Holy Family University in games played today at the DC Softball Field. Dominican won the first game, 7-0 and took the nightcap, 10-2 in six innings.

Orangeburg, N.Y. (4/1/19) Junior Samantha Fitzgerald (Fishkill, N.Y.) blasted two grand slam home runs this afternoon as the Dominican College softball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from the visiting Tigers of Holy Family University in games played today at the DC Softball Field. Dominican won the first game, 7-0 and took the nightcap, 10-2 in six innings.
Game One: DC scored two runs in the bottom of the first on a throwing error and a sacrifice bunt and added four more in the fourth on Fitzgerald's first homer of the day on a shot over the left field fence to increase the lead to 6-0.
In the sixth, sophomore Shalei Kraft (Waverly, N.Y.) produced a run-scoring single down the right field line to extend the lead to 7-0.
Pitcher Madeline Uschock (Greensburg, Pa.) got the complete game shutout victory, scattering three hits and striking out five batters.
Game Two: Holy Family led 1-0 after one inning of play when the Lady Charger offense powered ahead with a six-run bottom of the second. The first run scored on a wild pitch and outfielder Kristin Miscia (Basking Ridge, N.J.) hit an RBI single through the left side and Fitzgerald followed with her second grand slam on a shot over the left field fence.
Dominican added a run in the third on a Tiger throwing error to make the score 7-1 and the Tigers plated a run in the fourth to cut it to 7-2.
The Lady Charger fifth inning saw Miscia hit a one out solo home run to left field and in the sixth Miscia closed out the game with a two-run single through the left side for the 10-2 win.
Miscia went 3-4 in the game with four RBI, while Fitzgerald went 2-3 with four RBI.
Sophomore Shelby Smith (Valley Center, Calif.) improved to 3-2 on the season, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and five strikeouts.
DC now stands at 10-11 overall and 7-1 in conference play.
Dominican will travel to Caldwell University tomorrow afternoon.
