Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's lacrosse team wrapped up its inaugural season on Friday afternoon at Knights Field with a 22-6 home loss against the Wilmington (Del.) University Wildcats. UB wraps up its first season of play with a 1-12 overall record and a 0-7 Central Atlantic Conference mark. Wilmington heads to the CACC tournament with an even 6-6 overall record and a 5-2 conference record.
Senior Nick Whelan (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) netted two goals for the Purple Knights on Friday.
Sophomores Tyne Hewlette (Bayshore, N.Y.) and Noah Beard (Mint Hill, N.C.) each finished with three points on the day on a pair of assists and one goal. The three points by Hewlette give him a team-best 38 points on 22 goals and 16 assists this season.
Junior Dewey Schoenfelder (Mt. Airy, Md.) and freshman Darien Fray (Uniondale, N.Y.) each had a goal apiece for Bridgeport in the season finale.
Junior goalkeeper Peter Nazario (Farmingdale, N.Y.) closed out his stellar first year in a Purple Knights' uniform making 14 saves to give him a total of 191 on the season.
