Hillburn, N.Y.-The visiting University of Bridgeport men's lacrosse team held an 8-7 lead at the half, but the host Dominican University New York Chargers erupted for seven unanswered goals in the third quarter and their way a 17-12 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win over the Purple Knights. UB is now 1-8 overall in its inaugural season and 0-3 in conference play. Dominican is now 3-8 overall and 1-2 in the CACC.
Freshman James Napoli (Wantagh, N.Y.) led UB in goals scored with four and added one assist on Tuesday.
Classmate Darien Fray (Uniondale, N.Y.) had a hat trick for the Purple Knights on Wednesday. Sophomore Tyne Hewlette (Bayshore, N.Y.) added a pair of scores and one assist and Noah Beard (So., Mint Hill, N.C.), junior Dewey Schoenfelder (Mt. Airy, Md.) plus freshman John Monaco (Farmingville, N.Y.) had single goals for the visitors.
In net, junior Peter Nazario (Farmindale, N.Y.) made a total of 15 saves for UB.
Up next, the Bridgeport men's lacrosse team returns to Knights Field for the first time in over a month on Saturday, when the Purple Knights host Chestnut Hill in a CACC contest. Face-off is set for 12 noon.
