NEW CASTLE, Del. - - Senior Jillian Stafford hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning, setting a new Wilmington University softball single season RBI record, leading the Wildcats to a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference sweep over Chestnut Hill, 14-1 and 10-0, on Tuesday at Asbury Field.

Stafford's home run in the third inning of the first game gave the senior 39 RBI's on the season, breaking the single season mark of 37 set by Kelly Schirmer in 2007. Her home run was the final runs of an eight run third inning, after the Wildcats (26-16, 13-5 CACC) tallied six in the bottom of the first.

Rachel Painter also capped the first inning outburst with a home run, smacking a two run shot over the wall in center to score Brooke Berger for the 6-0 lead. Stafford then led off the bottom of the third with a double, later coming up to hit her second home run of the season down the left field line.

The six run first inning was more than enough for sophomore starter Chelsea Botsch, as she improved to 10-7 overall with a five inning complete game. She struck out eight batters while only allowing one run on four hits. Botsch is now 7-1 in her last eight appearances.

Senior Sky Boris led the Whiles with three hits and three RBI's, going a perfect 3-for-3 with a double. Christin Headley hit her ninth double to go 2-for-3 while Brook Ash, Stafford, and Painter all collected two hits in game one. Painter also knocked in three runs while Headley and Stafford chipped in with two each.

Wilmington used another big inning to kick start the second game, scoring six runs in the bottom of the second to set the tone for the doubleheader sweep. Painter added two more RBI's on her day with a single in the second before Headley hit her team leading fourth triple of the season, scoring one, to round out the six run inning.

After Katie Warrington shut the Griffins (8-22, 5-15 CACC) in the third and fourth innings, recording three strike outs combined, the Wildcats struck again with four more runs in the fourth.

Another record was on the table on Tuesday, as Ash, a freshman from Millsboro, Del., collected her third hit of the afternoon, giving her 62 on the season. Ash is now tied for the program record for hits in a single season set by Lindsay Watson in 2009.

Ash started the fourth with a one out single, before coming around to score on a sacrifice fly by Boris. Brooke Berger followed with a two run double, before Painter gave the Wildcats a 10-0 lead with an RBI single to right.

Danielle Griffin replaced Warrington for the fifth, setting Chestnut Hill down in order to end the game with the eight-run mercy rule.

Headley, Stafford, Berger, Painter, and Botsch all collected two hits in game two, while Berger and Painter led the team with three RBI's each.

Warrington improved to 13-3 on the season, striking out seven Griffins while not allowing a run and giving up two hits in four innings.

The two wins stretch the Wildcats' win streak to six straight, having now won 14 of their last 16 games overall. The team remains at its friendly confines for the remainder of the week, hosting two more CACC doubleheaders. The first twinbill is set for Thursday against Georgian Court with the first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m. at Asbury Field.
