NEW CASTLE, Del. - - A pair of Holy Family pitchers stymied the Wilmington University softball team on Thursday afternoon, as the Wildcats dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader, 4-2 and 2-1, at Asbury Field.

Tigers' (18-8, 9-3 CACC) pitchers Rachael Alligood and Bailey Walters only allowed seven hits in the doubleheader as the visitors jumped out to an early lead in game one before Walters helped her self out with a two-run shot in the nightcap against the Wildcats (16-16, 8-4 CACC).

Holy Family started the doubleheader with a two run first inning, getting a two-run single with the bases loaded by Walters. The Tigers then tacked on another run in the top of the second, as a two out error allowed a run to come home from third base.

The Wildcats got one of the runs back in the bottom of the second inning, as Ashley Bennett took the first she saw and deposited it over the fence in center for a solo home run.

Trailing 4-1 in the final frame, the Wildcats had a rally started as Miranda Pedersen started the inning with a double inside the third base bag. Pedersen came home as Colby Wyatt reached by a field error on the shortstop and the ball trickled away far enough for Pedersen to keep rounding third.

But Alligood settled down with the tying run on first base, getting the next three batters out to end the inning and the game.

Kelsey Doherty, Bennett, Pedersen, and Katrina Swank all collected hits for the Wildcats. Brooke Lachette pitched the final four innings of the first game without allowing an earned run while striking out a pair.

The nightcap was the Bailey Walters show for the Tigers, as she tossed a complete game while only allowing three hits, one unearned run, and hit a two-run homer in the top of the fourth.

The Wildcats took the early lead in the bottom of the second, as Becca Stanley started the inning with a single into center field. Now on third base, Stanley was able to score as a ball hit by Swank was bobbled at third, giving the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.

Senior Stephanie Sarris went all seven innings for the Wildcats, striking out six batters while only allowing four hits and two walks. But one of the hits was a two-our home run to Walters in the top of the fourth inning.

Walters shut down the Wildcats from there, as her home run was enough to win the game and take the sweep for the Tigers.

Meghan Logullo picked up two of the three hits fro the Wildcats, while Stanley's single accounted for the third and final hit of the game.

Today started a six game home stand for the Wildcats, as they will again play at Asbury Field this Saturday in another CACC doubleheader. The Wildcats will host Concordia with the first pitch coming at 12 p.m.
