Bridgeport Men's Soccer Blanks Bloomfield, 2-0, For First Win Of 2014 Season
Purple Knights Net Goals In Each Half To Pick Up The Victory
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team netted one goal in each half, as the Purple Knights picked up their first win of the 2014 season with a 2-0 victory over the visiting Bloomfield College Bears in match two of day one of the 2014 University of Bridgeport Men's Soccer Classic. UB is now 1-1 on the season, and Bloomfield remains winless at 0-2.
UB got on the board late in the first half when junior Erick Romero (Norwalk, Conn.) put home a beautiful pass from sophomore Jay Abreu (Palmas, Brazil) with only 31 seconds reaming in the first half.
The match would stay at a 1-0 score until the 68:55 mark of action when freshman Simon Haakansson (Stockholm, Sweden) netted his first collegiate goal off an assist from senior Michael Chmelowski (Windsor Locks, Conn.).
UB goalkeeper Agustin Prados (Sr., Madrid, Spain) picked up his first clean sheet of 2014 making six saves. Bloomfield keeper Arthur Clapot had four saves on the night, as Bridgeport outshot BC, 15-11.
The 2014 University of Bridgeport Men's Soccer Classic will continue on Saturday, September 13 when Bloomfield will face LIU Post at 4:00 p.m., and Bridgeport will take on Merrimack College at 7:00 p.m. Merrimack defeated LIU Post, 3-2, in double overtime in Thursday's opening match.
