Philadelphia, Pa.-It was a tough trip to the City of Brotherly Love for the University of Bridgeport baseball team on Wednesday afternoon, as the Purple Knights were swept in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference twinbill by the host Thomas Jefferson University Rams, as Jefferson won game one, 14-4, and completed the sweep with a 4-1 win in game two. UB is now 7-22 overall and 3-9 in conference play. The Rams move to 16-13 overall and 5-3 in the CACC.
In game one, sophomore Jeremy Rodrigues (Monroe, Conn.) had two hits and drove in three runs, as he blasted his second home run of 2023, and classmate Christian Ortiz (Linden, N.J.) also had two hits.
Senior Jacob Rich (Northwood, N.H.) knocked in the Purple Knights' other run in the opener.
In game two, sophomore Vin Mallon (Massapequa, N.Y.) plated Bridgeport's only run in the first inning.
Up next, the UB baseball team step away from conference play for a three-game weekend series with American International College beginning with a single game on Friday in Seaside Park. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
