Cary, N.C. (3/13/19) The Dominican College baseball team split a non-conference double-header with Slippery Rock University and Fairmont State University in games played today at the USA Training Complex.  In the opening game the Chargers defeated SRU 10-5, but the Fighting Falcons rallied in the nightcap for a 7-6 victory.

Game One:  The Charger offense recorded 10 runs on 15 hits, despite four errors in the 10-5 win.

A four-run second inning saw left fielder Max Chidsey (Naples, Fla.) hit an RBI double to right center field and Brett Karcher-Bowen (Cypress, Texas) followed with a two run single to centerfield.  Brian Sanders (La Ceiba, Honduras) later hit a run-scoring single up-the-middle for the 4-0 lead.

Following runs in the fifth and sixth innings, the Chargers put another four runs on the board in the seventh frame to lead them to the 10-5 win.

Sanders had four hits and two RBIs, while Chidsey finished with three hits and four RBIs.

Senior John-Michael Broderick (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) got the win in six innings of work, allowing four runs (three earned) on nine hits and four strikeouts.

Nicholas Bolanos (Miami, Fla.) earned his first save of the season in three innings of relief, scattering one hit and two strikeouts.

Game Two:  DC trailed 5-2 going into their final at-bat when the offense came alive with a four-run ninth inning.  Designated hitter Nicholas DeCandia (Cresskill, N.J.) hit a run-scoring single and two batters later a run came home on a sacrifice fly ball to right field.  Sanders added a two out two-run single to give the Chargers a 6-5 advantage.

In the bottom half of the ninth, a runner for Fairmont stole home and one recorded the game-winning RBI single for the 7-6 win.

Sanders and DeCandia both had two hits a-piece with Sanders adding two RBIs.

Reliever Ryan Siuta (Pomona, N.Y.) suffered the loss.
