CLERMONT, Fla. - - Brooke Berger connected on a one hit pitch to right field which scored Shelby Thompson, allowing the Wilmington University softball team to split its doubleheader on Saturday at the National Training Center, first falling to Cedarville, 6-5, on a walkoff before defeating Stonehill, 4-3, on its only walkoff in the night cap.

After battling back to tie the game in the top of the seventh against Cedarville in the day's first game, the Wildcats (7-3) fell 5-4 on a walkoff with the bases loaded before Thompson trotted home as the winning run in the bottom of the seventh against Stonehill after an error by the right fielder allowed Berger to come throw with the game ending attempt.

Thompson and Jillian Stafford led the Wildcats in game one, each connecting on two hits against Cedarville. Thompson went 2-for-4 while Stafford batted 2-for-3 with a run scored. Brook Ash, Berger, and Cambria Ziemba each added a hit against Cedarville on the offensive side.

The Wildcats were outhit, 9-7, for the game against Cedarville, but it was the defense that let the Wildcats down in the day's first game. The Wildcats committed five errors against Cedarville, leading to four unearned runs charged to starting pitcher Chelsea Botsch.

Botsch well the entire game for Wilmington, tossing 6.1 innings in all while striking out two batters and only walking one. The sophomore allowed nine hits in the start while giving up five runs, but only one earned. The last second loss dropped the pitcher to 1-2 on the young season.

Katie Warrington took to the circle in the second game against in-region opponent Stonehill. She again tossed a complete game, striking out 10 batters to make it double digits in all four starts so far in 2013. She improved to 4-0 on the year, giving up three runs (one earned) on five hits while not allowing a walk to Stonehill.

The Wildcats got on the board first against Stonehill, putting two up in the bottom of the third inning. With one out, Ziemba reached on a throwing error by the third baseman, one of three errors on the day for the Skyhawks. Thompson followed two batters later with a single into left field, scoring Ziemba for the games' first run. With Emily Nowell standing on third base, Brook Ash hit an RBI ground out to short, giving the Wildcats a 2-0 lead.

Stonehill got the game in their favor, putting a two spot on the board in the fifth, while following it with a single run in the sixth to take a 3-2 lead heading into the final inning of play.

Ziemba started the bottom of the seventh off with a single into left field before Nowell grounded out to third, but moved the tying run up to second base. After Thompson was intentionally walked, Ash singled into right field for the game-tying RBI, while Thompson moved to third base on the throw to the plate. Berger stepped in and hit one to right field, where the Skyhawks made an error and allowed Thompson to trot home without a play at the plate for the game winning run.

Five separate players came away with a hit a piece for the Wildcats in the second game on Saturday, while Ash ended with a game high two RBI's. Thompson, Ash, Berger, Skye Boris and Ziemba each collected a hit against Stonehill.

The Wildcats will take Sunday down in Clermont, Fla., before returning to action in their two-week trip to Florida on Monday when they square off against Dowling and Saint Anselm starting at 11 a.m.
