Bridgeport Softball Now 3-3 Overall After Defeating Nyack And Losing To Stonehill In Florida
Purple Knights Back In Action On Tuesday
Claremont Fla.-The University of Bridgeport softball team split two games for the third consecutive day in Florida, as the Purple Knights (3-3 overall) topped Nyack College. 7-5 in nine innings to open the day and fell 4-2 against a tough Stonehill College squad to close out the day.
In the win over Nyack, freshman Ashley Hessler (Pawtucket, R.I.) went 3-for-4 with an RBI, and junior Jessica Griesinger (Brewster, N.Y.) had two hits and two runs batted in. Sydney Phillips (Jr., Sebastopol, Calif.), Meghan O'Leary (Lafayette, N.J) and Katelyn Wall (Jr., Madison, Conn.) each had one RBI for the winners in Sunday's opener.
Senior Tiffany Irrera (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was a workhorse in the circle for the Purple Knights versus Nyack pitching all nine innings to notch her first win of 2014; striking out six in the win.
Against Stonehill, sophomore Paige Owens (Berlin, Conn.) knocked in both runs, and freshman Kaitlyn Lajoie (Vernon, Conn.) was the tough luck loser pitching a complete game in which allowed only two earned runs while striking out five and giving up six hits.
The UB softball team will take Monday off in Florida and return to the diamond on Tuesday against Shippensburg and West Virginia Wesleyan.
