Logan Stinson Scores 100th Career Goal as Offense Pops Off in 25-15 CACC Win Over Caldwell

NEWARK, Del. - - Logan Stinson became the first player in Wilmington University men's lacrosse team history to score 100 career goals as the Wildcats defeated Caldwell, 25-15, in their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opener on Saturday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex.

Logan Stinson (Lafayette, La.) was sitting at 96 goals coming into day but even with all the goals scored in the first half, Stinson didn't score until four seconds left before the break. He then added a goal in the third and then back-to-back goals in the fourth, the second giving him 100 career marks to make it 23-14 with 5:07 to play in the game.

The Wildcats (2-4, 1-0 CACC) started the game by scoring the first four goals of the game, with three of them coming from Giovanna Marino. Marino added a fourth in the quarter to make it 6-1 before the Wildcats went into the second with a 6-2 lead.

Caldwell scored to make it 7-3 early in the second but then the Wildcats rattled off four straight goals by four different players. Giovanni Marino and Josh Lovely scored back-to-back goals to make it 14-6. Logan Stinson then scored with four seconds left before the half to give the Wildcats a 15-7 lead at the break.

Giovanna Marino, Josh Lovely and Logan Stinson scored to start the third quarter, opening the lead to 18-7. Caldwell made its way back into the contest though, scoring the next five goals to close the gap to as few as 18-12 with four minutes left in the third quarter. But Jacob Herman answered with the final goal of the third to stem the tide, as the Wildcats went into the fourth quarter leading 19-12.

Caldwell cut into the lead even more with the first two goals of the fourth quarter, getting to within 19-14 with 13:45 left in regulation, and still locked into a man-advantage. Connor Widmer won the ensuing face-off for the Wildcats, and out of a timeout, Jacob Herman was the go-to again, scoring a man-down goal to swing the momentum back to the Wildcats.

The Wildcats went on to score three more consecutive goals, capped by Logan's Stinson's 100th career goal with 5:07 to play and give the Wildcats a 23-14 lead.

Giovanni Marino led the Wildcats with six goals and three assists while Jacob Herman tallied nine points as well with five goals and four assists. Logan Stinson finished with five goals and two assists while Josh Lovely scored his first career hat trick with three goals and an assist. TJ Caton scored two goals and two assists while Miles Crouse added two goals as well.

Nick Bruhn led the defensive effort with five caused turnovers and 11 ground balls, a record for non-face-off players. Brendan Leonard had three caused turnovers and Jaeden Henson added four ground balls and two caused turnovers.

The Wildcats are back in action on Tuesday, as they travel to Georgian Court for another CACC contest. The game in Lakewood, New Jersey, is set for a 3:00 p.m. start.
