Double-Doubles By Tanisha Carter And Priscilla Dodoo Help Women's Basketball To Season-Opening Win Over Wilmington (Del.)

Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team got double-doubles from senior Tanisha Carter (East Hartford Conn.) and graduate student Priscilla Dodoo (Worcester, Mass.) as the Purple Knights opened their 2012-13 season with a wire-to-wire 73-58 win over the visiting Wilmington (Del.) Wildcats in the University of Bridgeport Women's Basketball Classic on Saturday.
Carter scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, and Dodoo also had 11 boards and netted 16 points.
Bridgeport opened the game with a 4-0 lead before the Wildcats hit a three-point shot to pull within one point at 4-3, and that was the closest the visitors would come to the winners all day.
With the score 28-22 with 7:11 to play in the first half, the Purple Knights closed out the opening 20 minutes of play on a 15-1 to take a 43-23 halftime lead.
Wilmington's Tenicia Spencer led all scorers in the game with 19 points, and she was joined in double figures by Cari Callaway with 11 points.
UB junior Aziza Patterson (East Orange, N.J.) fell just shy of double-digit scoring with nine points, and sophomore Vanessa Schindler (Leimen, Germany) grabbed 10 rebounds coming off the Bridgeport bench. UB dominated the glass in the victory outrebounding Wilmington, 52-36.
In day two of the 2012 University of Bridgeport Women's Basketball Classic on Sunday, November 11, Wilmington will face Molloy at 12 noon, and Bridgeport will take on St. Michael's (Vt.) College at 4:00 p.m.
In Saturday's other women's game, St. Mike's topped Molloy, 89-48.
