Colchester, Vt.-The University of Bridgeport men's lacrosse team opened a five-game road swing on Saturday afternoon with a battle of Purple Knights traveling north to Vermont to take on St. Michael's College, and the hosts defeated UB by a score of 25-6. Bridgeport is now 1-5 in its first season of play, and St. Mike's ups its season mark to 3-1.
Senior Nick Whelan (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) netted a hat trick for UB on Saturday, and freshman James Napoli (Wantagh, N.Y.) also had a three-point day with a pair of goals and one assist.
Darien Fray (Fr., Uniondale, N.Y.) put home Bridgeport's other goal on the day, and sophomore Tyne Hewlette (Bayshore, N.Y.) had three assists.
Bridgeport goalkeeper Peter Nazario (Jr., Farmingdale, N.Y.) made a total of 14 saves in the contest.
Up next, the UB men's lacrosse team will continue its road trip and open Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play next Sunday, when the Purple Knights make the quick trip up Route 8 to take on Post University in Waterbury, Conn. Game time is set for 11:00 a.m.
