CLERMONT, Fla. - - Katie Warrington nearly struck out every batter she faced and Danielle Griffin came on to finish off Immaculata, 8-0, in the Wilmington University softball team's second game of the day at the National Training Center on Tuesday.

The game was moved to 6 p.m. due to a Florida rain shower that ruined most of the day at NTC, but the Wildcats (3-1) got the bats going to sweep the second day of their two week trip. Wilmington also beat Michigan-Dearborn, 4-3, earlier in the morning.

Warrington tossed the first five innings of the game, striking out 14 of a possible 15 batters without giving up a hit before handing the ball over to Griffin for the final inning. Griffin also picked up a strikeout, making it 15 of the 18 outs for the Wildcats coming by way of the punch out. Warrington walked one batter while the Mighty Macs (1-3) broke up the no-hitter with a pair of hits in the top of the sixth inning.

The bats also came alive for the Wildcats, earning the mercy rule in the bottom of the sixth inning, cutting the game an inning short. Wilmington picked up four hits through the first three innings, but left four runners on base before breaking through in a big way in the fourth.

Christin Headley started the bottom of the fourth with her first double of the season to left center. Cambria Ziemba loaded the bases with no outs with an infield single, but the Wildcats wouldn't strike until two batters later when Emily Nowell earned her first career RBI with a base loaded walk. Now with two outs and the bases still loaded, Brook Ash laced one to right field, bringing two more runs home and keeping the inning alive. Brooke Berger capped the four run inning with a single into right field, scoring Nowell from second.

After allowing a leadoff walk in the fifth, Warrington shut the door when a pitcher is looking for a zero the most, striking out the side for the fourth time of the game. Griffin came on in the top of the sixth and worked out of a one out, two on jam, escaping the inning without any damage. Warrington picked up the win for the game, moving to 2-0 early in the season.

Still leading 4-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth, the Wildcats put the game away with four runs on five hits. Nowell started the rally with a single through the right side before Shelby Thompson put the first two batters on with another infield single. Ash picked up her third RBI of the game with a single into left before Jillian Stafford made it 6-0 on a bases loaded single through the left side two batters later.

Samantha Subda made her first collegiate appearance and worked a bases loaded walk for her first career RBI, pushing the lead to 7-0. Skye Boris ended the contest on the next at-bat, singling back up the middle to score Berger for the eighth and final run of the game.

In all, the Wildcats knocked around 13 hits, led by Ash's 3-for-4 performance. Berger, Ziemba and Nowell each collected two hits in the nightcap. Ash led the Wildcats with three RBI's while Nowell was the only runner to cross the plate twice in the game. 

Wilmington is back in action on Wednesday at the National Training Center, squaring off against Florida Southern in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
