Cary, N.C. (3/13/22) The Dominican College baseball team dropped a non-conference double-header to Saint Anselm College, 9-6 and 9-4, in games played today at the USA Baseball Training Complex.

Cary, N.C. (3/13/22) The Dominican College baseball team dropped a non-conference double-header to Saint Anselm College, 9-6 and 9-4, in games played today at the USA Baseball Training Complex.
With the losses, Dominican falls to 2-9 on the season.
Game One: DC trailed 4-2 heading into the seventh inning when Darian Almonte (Orangeburg, N.Y.) hit a one out RBI single and Richard Paulino (San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic) followed with a run-scoring single to tie the score, 4-4.
The Hawks scored five runs on four hits and three errors on the top of the ninth to claim the 9-4 win.
Christian Fils-Aime (North Babylon, N.Y.) and Arthur Quinones (Miami, Fla.) had three hits each in the loss. Freshman Alexander Reyes (Bronx, N.Y.) collected two hits.
Freshman pitcher Anthony Leak (Pelham, N.Y.) took the loss (0-2) in five innings of work, allowing four runs (three earned) on nine hits and nine strikeouts in five innings of work.
Game Two: Saint Anselm scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning, but DC put a two runs on the board in the third inning on a sacrifice fly hit by Fils-Aime and a Hawk fielding error.
Dominican took the lead in the top of the fourth, scoring three runs on two hits. Almonte got things going with an RBI ground out and Fils-Aime followed later followed with an RBI single. Next up was Tyler Patterson (East Meadow, N.Y.) who recorded a run-scoring single to give DC the 5-3 advantage.
Saint Anselm countered in their half of the four inning, bringing home four runs to regain the lead. The Hawks added to the lead in the sixth inning with two more runs to increase the lead to 9-5.
The final run of the game was scored in the top of the seventh on the lead off home run by Bobby Garbuio (Chappaqua, N.Y. ) for the final 9-6 score.
Fils-Aime went 2-2 in the game with two RBI.
Starter Matt Sabene (Danbury, Conn.) suffered the loss in two and 1/3 innings of work. Noel Vasquez (Washington Heights, N.Y.) pitched the remainder of the game, collecting five strikeouts.
The Chargers wrap up the four-game series with Saint Anselm College tomorrow morning.
