GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - - Marius Skattum Dahl put the Wilmington University men's soccer team on the board for the first time this season, but American International fought back to tie the match to end the Gold and Brown Invitational on Saturday, 1-1, hosted by Adelphi.

Following a scoreless draw at the halftime break, Marius Skattum Dahl buried a cross from Mads-Emil Roestbjaerg in the 48th minute to break the ice for the first time this season. Despite minimal chances, AIC was able to break through and score in the 71st minute and the game ended in a 1-1 draw following regulation.

The Wildcats (0-0-1) controlled the first half, outshooting the Yellow Jackets, 11-0, but only put two of those shots on frame. They also earned more corners in the first half, 5-1. Marcus Hedemann and Osiel Robledo collected the shots on goal in the first half, but Lucas Morales-Fernandez made both saves.

The Wildcats put the pressure on out of the halftime break, immediately getting shots from Marius Skattum Dahl and Malcom Young. They were finally able to break through with their third shot of the half, coming in the 48th minute.

Marcus Hedemann sprung Mads-Emil Roestbjaerg free down the right side and towards the endline. His low cut-back cross went all the way through the box to a wide-open Marius Skattum Dahl on the back post for the one-time goal.

American International registered their first show in the 50th minute, but Bas Markus came up with the save. Markus made another save in the 62nd minute, but he was unable to make the stop in the 71st minute as a Yellow Jacket was free behind the back line.

Roestbjaerg found himself free atop the 18-yard box with six minutes left, but his shot sailed wide. Ryuga Uchigashima was in on the left side with two minutes to play, but his near-post attempt was stopped by the AIC goalkeeper to keep the game tied, 1-1.

The Wildcats outshot the Yellow Jackets, 20-5, and earned more corners, 8-2. Bas Markus made three saves for the Wildcats.

Wilmington will make its 2022 home debut on Wednesday as they welcome Millersville to the WU Athletics Complex. The opening whistle is set for 4:00 p.m.
