BASEBALL FALLS IN SERIES FINALE TO SAINT ANSLEM COLLEGE

The game was the finale of a four-game series with Saint Anselm in Cary, N.C.The Chargers fell to 2-10 overall on the season.
Ethan Sarmiento (Warwick, N.Y.) led the way with three hits including two doubles. Sarmiento drove in two RBIs. Bobby Garbuio (Chappaqua, N.Y.) added a homer and three RBIs.
Shane Hewlette (Deer Park, N.Y.) recorded one hit, two walks and one run scored. Darian Almonte (Orangeburg, N.Y.), Arthur Quinones (Miami, Fla.), and Max Chidsey (Naples, Fla.) each finished with one hit.
The Hawks jumped out to an early 2-0 lead over DC in the first inning. Sarmiento tied the game in the second inning with a two-RBI single.
Saint Anselm regained the lead in the third inning but the Chargers answered back in the bottom of the third inning after Garbuio's three-run homer gave DC the 5-4 lead.
DC extended the lead to 6-4 in the fourth inning and held the lead until the eighth inning. The Hawks rallied in the top of the eighth inning to take a 7-6 lead.
The Chargers scratched a run across in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie the game at 7-7.
The Hawks rallied in the top of the ninth inning and back to back doubles by Salvatore Pezzolla and Kyle Maurice drove in two runs each.
The Hawks were led by Pezzolla and Maurice who each finished with three RBIs. Pezzolla added three hits and Maurice added two hits.
Mike Pierro added a double in the first inning that drove in the first two runs of the game.
DC will be back in action on Tuesday, March 15th for a match up with Mount Olive at 3:00 PM.
