Uniondale, N.Y. (3/18/22) The Dominican College baseball team dropped a non-conference double-header to host Molloy College, 8-4 and 10-2, in games played this afternoon at Mitchell Field.
Following the games, the Chargers now stand at 2-14 overall on the season.
Game One: Dominican took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first as designated hitter Bobby Garbuio (Chappaqua, N.Y.) delivered a two out two-run home run. Molloy followed with a run in their half of the first and added two more in the second for the 3-2 lead.
DC added a run in the fourth on the RBI double to left field off the bat of Shane Hewlette (Deer Park, N.Y.), but the Lions countered with two run the bottom of the inning to re-take a 5-3 advantage.
A run in the fifth on the RBI single to center field by Max Chidsey (Naples, Fla.) brought Dominican within a run, 5-4, but three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning lifted the Lions to the 8-5 win.
Chidsey finished the game with two hits, while Garbuio had two RBI.
Starter Brendan Turton (Westbury, N.Y.) took the loss (0-4) in three and 2/3 innings of work.
Game Two: The nightcap saw the Lions hold a 3-0 lead after four innings of play, but DC got on the board in the fifth on the RBI single through the left side by Richard Paulino (San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic). MC tacked on three more runs for an 8-1 lead before Hewlette a two out solo home run over the left field fence in the sixth to make the score 10-2.
Anthony Leak (Pelham, N.Y.) suffered the loss (0-3) in four and 2/3 innings of work.
Dominican returns to Molloy College on Sunday afternoon.
