LADY CHARGERS OPEN SEASON WITH SPLIT
Clermont, Fla. (3/7/20) The Dominican College softball team opened up the 2020 season with a non-conference split at The Spring Games. DC won the opening game against California University of Pennsylvania, 4-2 and fell to Lewis, 6-3.

Clermont, Fla. (3/7/20) The Dominican College softball team opened up the 2020 season with a non-conference split at The Spring Games. DC won the opening game against California University of Pennsylvania, 4-2 and fell to Lewis, 6-3.
Game One: Dominican struck for three runs in the bottom of the first as senior Samantha Fitzgerald (Fishkill, N.Y.) singled home a run and later designated player Andrea Hester (Yorba Linda, Calif.) hit a two out two-run single for the 3-0 advantage.
DC added a run in the bottom of the fifth on the RBI single from Fitzgerald to increase the lead to 4-0.
The Vulcans got on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh with two runs for the final 4-2 win.
Fitzgerald finished the game with two hits and two RBI, while Hester tallied two RBI.
Freshman Kyra Wiens (Chilliwack, British Columbia) picked up her first collegiate complete game victory, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and seven strikeouts.
Game Two: The Flyers scored a run in the first, two more in the second and three more in the third to pull in front 6-0.
Dominican got on the board in the fourth inning as pinch hitter Madison Walker (Southampton, N.J.) produced a two-run double to right field and Alyssa Schwalb (Lindenhurst, N.Y. ) followed with an RBI single to center field for the final 6-3 score.
Fitzgerald hat two hits in the contest, while Walker had two RBI.
Shelby Smith (Valley Center, Calif.) took the loss in two and 2/3 innings of work.
