ORANGEBURG, N.Y. - - The Wilmington University softball team bounced back from a game one loss to split a doubleheader with Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference leading Dominican, 0-10 and 4-3m snapping a 17-game CACC winning streak for the Chargers, on Tuesday afternoon at the DC Softball Field.

The loss was snapped a four-game losing streak for the Wildcats (18-19, 10-4 CACC) and ended the longest CACC winning streak this season, giving the host Chargers (23-13, 17-1 CACC) their first loss of the conference season. The game two win was Wilmington's first win over Dominican since a 5-4 win at home on March 21, 2009.

With game two scoreless through the first four innings, Wilmington erupted for four runs in the top of the fifth inning. Shelby Thompson led off the inning with a single to set the table for the big bats of the lineup. Standing on second with one out, Shelby was able to trot home run as Christin Headley launched a two-run home run for the games' first two runs.

Still in the fifth, Jill Stafford worked a one-out walk to restart the inning and Rachel Painter stepped in and launched another two-run home run in the inning, making it 4-0 after four and a half innings.

Game two starter Katie Warrington, named the CACC Pitcher of the Week for the third consecutive week today, was unable to keep the Chargers down the entire game, as Kathryn Coles smacked a two-run home run of her own to make it 4-2 after five innings.

Warrington, who did not allow a base runner until Dominican hit a two-out single in the fourth, went into the seventh inning looking for her 10^th win and 11^th complete game of the season. Although she gave up a one-out solo shot to cut the lead 4-3, Warrington held control of the inning, getting the next two batters out in order to pick up the win. She struck out Ashley Martinez to end the game, marking her 11^th strikeout of the contest.

Warrington improved to 10-7, winning for the sixth time in her previous seven starts. The 11 strikeouts tied a season high and marks the fifth time in the last six games that she collected at least 10 strikeouts.

Thompson and Headley each batted 2-for-4, as Thompson scored a run and Headley knocked in two and scored one with her home run. Brooke Berger, Painter and Jess Hassman earned the remaining three hits for the Wildcats in game two.

Game one was the Delaney Childers show for Dominican, as she threw a five-inning complete game shutout, picking up seven strikeouts along the way. The Wildcats only managed two hits off Childers.

Dominican scored four quick runs in the first to take control of game one, added four runs in the third and finished off the game with two run in the fourth for the mercy-ruled ending following the fifth inning.

Headley and Painter collected singles for the Wildcats in the first game, as Headley finished the doubleheader 3-for-6 with a home run, two RBIs and a run scored. Painter finished 2-for-5 with a home run, two RBI's and a run scored on the afternoon.

Wilmington will not receive any rest as they return to the diamond on Wednesday to play another important CACC doubleheader. The Wildcats will come back to Asbury Field to face University of the Sciences (12-14, 10-8 CACC) starting at 3 p.m.
