LANTANA, Fla. - - Freshman Brendan Fallers knocked in the winning run for the Wilmington University baseball team in the bottom of the 11^th inning, as the Wildcats defeated UMass-Lowell, 4-3, in extra innings, at the Santa Luces Sports Complex during the teams' Spring Break trip to Florida on Friday night.

With the game tied 3-3 after 11 and a half innings, the Wildcats Adam Soley led off with a double and scored two batters later on a  single for the games' winning run, helping the Wildcats improve to 5-3 overall. UMass-Lowell scored three runs in the first two innings, but was shutout the rest of the way to fall to 4-4 overall.

All the scoring happened in the first four innings, before Wilmington tallied the game-winning run in the bottom of the 11^th. The Wildcats tied the game with two run in the bottom of the fourth and outhit the River Hawks, 9-8, to win their first extra-inning game of the year.

Wildcat starter Jamie Treml gave up two earned runs in the top of the first and an unearned run in the top of the second, but shut down the River Hawks for the next four innings to set up the victory.

The Wildcats responded with a run in the bottom half of the first, as Jordan Johnson worked a leadoff walk to kick-start the inning. After advancing to second on a sacrifice, Johnson came around to score on a Joe Harbach double to cut it to 2-1. Harbach nearly tied the contest on a Jordan Oncay single, but was thrown out at home by right fielder Jimmy Ricoy.

UMass-Lowell added a run in top of the second to make it 3-1, but the Wildcats responded with two runs in the fourth to tie the game. Fallers was hit by a pitch, while Johnson reached on a n error to put two runners on with one out. Jonathan Rodriguez grounded one to third but reached on the fielder's choice, allowing Fallers to come around to score from second. Harbach followed with his second extra base hit of the day on an RBI triple, tying the game at 3-3 as Rodriguez raced home from first.

Treml kept the River Hawks off the scoreboard for the rest of his stint, throwing six innings while striking out 10 batters and giving up six hits. Ryan Lally threw a scoreless seventh inning while Nick Marics came on to throw a scoreless eighth. Oncay, the team's typical closer, came on for the ninth inning and threw the final three innings of the game, not allowing a run while striking out three and only giving up two hits.

Oncay, who has not given up a run in either of the 2011 or 2012 seasons, picked up his first win of the season as the Wildcats were able to come through in the bottom of the 11^th.

Soley led off the 11^th inning with a double, and advanced to third as Kyle Hitchens executed a sacrifice bunt to put the winning run 90 feet away with only one out. Fallers ended the game with his first hit of his career, singling home Soley to complete the comeback.

Harbach finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs while Oncay also batted 2-for-5 to help lead the Wildcats offensively. Mike Godwin, Bryan Miller, Soley and Fallers rounded out the hits for Wilmington, each with a hit apiece.

Oncay moved to 1-0 on the year, while River Hawk reliever Mike Sloban took the loss after throwing a third of an inning in the 11^th. UMass-Lowell starter Tyler Toyfair pitched 3.2 innings while giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits. Bryant Guilmette had the most productive day on the mound for the River Hawks, throwing 4.1 innings of scoreless baseball, giving up one hit and striking out three Wildcats.

Wilmington continues its Spring Break trip to Florida on Saturday, with an afternoon matchup against Adelphi starting at 3:30 p.m. at the Santa Luces Sports Complex.
