Phrance Grabs 10 Boards but the Wildcats Fall 75-49 to Post on Senior Day

NEW CASTLE, Del. - - The Wilmington University women's basketball team honored its lone senior before and game and Candace Phrance responded with 10 rebounds, but the Wildcats fell to Post, 75-49, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action at the Pratt Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Wildcats (2-21, 1-17 CACC) not only closed down the 2011-12 season at the Pratt Center, but also closed the student building down for good as the Lady Wildcats will head to a new facility next season. With the win, Post (9-16, 7-11 CACC) extends its winning streak to three games and did its part to stay alive in the CACC North Division playoff race.

The Eagle led wire to wire, opening the game on an 8-0 run before gaining as big as a 23 point first half advantage. The lead grew to a game high 31 points late in the second half before the Wildcats shaved off five points, settling on the final score.

After the Eagles rattled off the first eight points of the game, the Wildcats fired back with a 7-0 run of their own to get within one point with 12:36 to play in the first half. Cari Callaway got the home team on the scoreboard first with a layup at the 15:05 mark of the game. Megan Fox hit the second of her two free throws before Kim Walton hit her first jumper to make it five straight. Callaway completed the run with a jumper from the wing to make it 8-7. But that would be as close as the Wildcats would make it the rest of the game.

From there, Post scored eight straight of their own, and 17 of the next 18 points in the game to open the margin and essentially putting the game away early.

Although it was Senior Day, it was a pair of freshman that led the offensive charge for the Wildcats. Erin Moore finished with a team high 12 points, hitting two of her four attempts from three-point territory. Classmate Candace DeShields also tallied double figures, picking up 10 points. Phrance grabbed a team-high 10 boards, and chipped in six points on 3-for-7 shooting in her final performance in front of the home crowd.

Post was led the hot shooting Casey Brooks, as she tallied 21 points on 7-for-10 shooting, hitting all five of her three-point attempts. Aubrey Latham added a double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds. Kelli Reynolds chipped in with 11 points while Diaysha Brewington was the final Eagle in double figured with 10 points. Monique Chance collected 10 rebounds as well for the Eagles.

Post outshot the Wildcats, 41.1 to 29.8 percent. The Eagles made 30 of their 73 shots, including going a staggering 8-for-13 from beyond the arc. Wilmington shot 17-for-57 and 3-for-10 from three-point land.

Wilmington will close out the 2011-12 season on Tuesday, as the Wildcats travel to USciences for the final game of the season. The game is slated for a 6 p.m. tip.
