CHARGERS TAKE TWO FROM BEARS
Newark, N.J. (4/24/22) The Dominican College baseball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from host, Bloomfield College, in games played today at West Side Park.

Newark, N.J. (4/24/22) The Dominican College baseball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from host, Bloomfield College, in games played today at West Side Park.
Following the wins Dominican is now 14-26 overall on the season and 11-9 in conference play.
Game One: The Chargers rallied from a 6-0 deficit en route to a 12-11 win. DC trailed 6-0 after two innings, but got three runs back in the third as Shane Hewlette (Deer Park, N.Y.) was hit by-a-pitch with the bases loaded to plate a run and Alexander Reyes (Bronx, N.Y.) followed with a two-run single through the left side. Bloomfield field countered in their half of the third with three runs to extend the lead to 9-3.
DC added four runs in the sixth on a two-run double to right center off the bat of Bobby Garbuio (Chappaqua, N.Y.) and back-to-back RBI singles from Hewlette and Reyes to pull within two runs (9-7).
Dominican tied the game in the seventh on the one out two-run single through the right side from Richard Paulino (San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic) to make the score 9-9. The Bears rallied with two runs in their half of the seventh with two runs to regain an 11-9 advantage.
Back-to-back hits for Dominican in the eighth as Bryant Bassett (Bronx, N.Y.) hit a two-run ground rule double and Tyler Richman (Sunrise, Fla.) delivered an RBI single up-the-middle gave DC their first lead of the game and the eventual win, 12-11.
Paulino, Garbuio and Reyes all had three hits in the win.
Reliever Robert Liriano (Haverstraw, N.Y.) picked up the win in 2 2/3 innings of work.
Game Two: Hewlette hit a two out run-scoring single down the left field line to give the Chargers the 1-0 advantage in the top of the first inning, but BC would bring two runs home in the bottom of the second to take the lead, 2-1.
An infield single in the top of the third tied the score, 2-2, but the Bears scored three runs in their half of the third for the 5-2 lead. DC got runs back in the third and fourth inning on RBI groundouts to cut the lead to 5-4.
In their final at-bat, the Chargers scored four runs on four hits. The first run scored on the RBI single by Garbuio and Ethan Sarmiento (Warwick, N.Y.) followed with an RBI double to left field. Hewlette was the next batter and he delivered the two-run home run to right center field to give Dominican the 8-5 lead and win.
Paulino went 4-4 in the game, while Hewlette went 2-2 with two runs scored and three RBI.
Jaden Diaz-Lambert (Erial, N.J.) got the win in 2 2/3 innings of work.
The Chargers are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to the University of Bridgeport.
