Garden City, N.Y. (4/11/19) The Dominican College baseball team suffered a loss to non-conference opponent Adelphi University Panthers. The Panthers defeated the Chargers in a walk-off victory to improve to 23-5. After the loss, the Chargers fall to 19-15 overall on the season.
Joshua Colon (Bronx, N.Y.) and Justin Decker (Rotterdam, N.Y.) each recorded three hits in the loss with Decker driving in three RBI including a double and a home run. Colon also scored three runs and recorded a double. Brian Sanders (La Ceiba, Honduras) recorded two hits and drove in two RBI and also scored a run.
For the Panthers, Brett Malm led the way with four RBI, two hits, and scored two runs. Malm added a home run and the game-winning double in the bottom of the ninth inning. Brandon Warick recorded three hits and three RBI in the win. Tom Ambrosino earned the win in relief for the Panthers.
The Panthers jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning on a wild pitch and a two-run single by Brandon Warick. The Chargers got on the board in the third inning to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Brett Malm broke the game open with a three-run homer to extend the Panther's lead to 6-1. The Chargers scored one run in each of the fifth, seventh, and eighth innings to cut the Panther lead. Justin Decker's RBI double and Brian Sanders RBI single helped the Chargers get back into the game.
Brandon Warick drove in his third RBI of the game to extend the Panther lead to 7-4. DC rallied in the ninth to tie the game at 7-7. Brian Sanders earned his second RBI of the game to cut the deficit to 7-5. Justin Decker tied the game on a two-run homer to cap off the ninth inning rally.
The Panthers won the game in the bottom of the ninth inning after a lead-off walk by Jonathon Ladevaia and Brett Malm's game-winning RBI double secured the victory.
The Chargers will look to bounce back when they return home to host conference opponent Goldey-Beacom College for a doubleheader on Sunday, April 14th. Game one is scheduled for 4:00 PM and game two will follow at 7:00 PM.
