The Chargers took game one by a score of 9-4 and the Lightning bounced back to take game two by a score of 10-2.
The Chargers now hold an overall record of 4-24 and a CACC record of 1-7 on the season. The Lightning now stand at 19-10 overall and 5-2 in conference play.
Game One: The Chargers opened the doubleheader with their first CACC win of the season after taking game one 9-4.
Anthony Leak (Pelham, N.Y.) took the mound in game one and recorded eight strikeouts over five innings pitched. Freshman Andrew Wilson (Scotia, N.Y.) entered the game in relief and threw two shutout innings to record his first career win.
The Chargers opened the scoring with a three-run rally in the bottom of the second inning. Benjamin Avila (Walden, N.Y.) led off the inning with a double and then back to back walks loaded the bases before Jean Nunez (New York, N.Y.) singled to give Dominican a 1-0 lead.
Joseph Coppola (Cornwall, N.Y.) reached on a fielder's choice which gave the Chargers a 2-0 lead. Dominican scratched across one more run before the end of the inning and held a 3-0 lead heading into the third inning.
The Lightning cut the deficit to 3-1 after an RBI-single by Johnny Kampes in the top of the third inning.
Ty Gilligan (Ringwood, N.J.) extended the Charger lead back to three after a solo homer to right center.
The Lightning added two runs in the top of the fourth inning after an RBI-single by Braden Kolmansberger and a second run came around to score after a throwing error. GBC tied the game in the top of the fifth inning.
The Chargers rallied for five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Jason Sosa-Rivas (Yonkers, N.Y.) singled to bring the go ahead run home. A bases loaded walk by Tyler Richman (Sunrise, Fla.) and a throwing error brought home two more runs.
Christian Fils-Aime (North Babylon, N.Y.) doubled in two more runs to extend the lead to 9-4.
Wilson pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the seventh to close out the game one victory.
Game Two: The Lightning jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead over the first three innings of game two.
The Chargers got on the board in the bottom of the third inning after an RBI groundout by Alexander Reyes (Bronx, N.Y.). Gilligan followed with an RBI-double to cut the deficit to 6-2.
The Lightning added four runs over the next two innings on their way to the game two victory.
Anthony Dimartino recorded his third win of the season on the mound with six innings pitched and added five strikeouts.
Johnny Kampes led the way in game two for GBC with a homer, double, and two RBIs. Kyle Walker and Dante Disabatino each added two hits and one RBI. Adam McEvoy added a pinch hit two-RBI single while Kolmansberger finished with two hits.
The Chargers will look to bounce back this Thursday when they host Chestnut Hill College for a conference doubleheader beginning at 2:00 PM at Clover Stadium.
