Much like the rest of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference the Wilmington University women's soccer team was unable to solve Philadelphia's back line before falling, 3-0, on Tuesday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex.
With the win, the Rams (7-1-1, 6-0 CACC) remain undefeated in the CACC and have yet to be scored upon in conference play. The Wildcats (2-8, 2-5 CACC) tested Philadelphia's goalkeeper Courtney Shaw on four attempts, but she came up with a save on each shot on goal.
Although outshooting the Wildcats, 12-3, in the first half, Wildcat goalkeeper Julia Brown recorded five saves in the opening 45 minutes to keep the home team in the contest.
The Rams were able to get on the board in the first half, however, using a Michaela Van Antwerp goal in the 23rd minute to start the scoring. A long ball from midfield came to Van Antwerp and Wilmington's Melissa Gall at the top of the penalty box. After a quick battle, Van Antwerp was able to wrestle the ball away from Gall and score high on Brown.
After the halftime break, the Rams were able to score quickly to add to their lead, putting a goal on the board in the 53rd minute. It was Van Antwerp again for the Rams who received a cross from Shannon Reardigan from the right endline. Van Antwerp redirected the cross to the far post with her head for her second goal of the season.
The Rams added an insurance goal in the 88th minute as Carla Chmielewski rocketed a shot from 25 yards out, sneaking the ball under the crossbar for her fourth goal of the season.
Loran Wyrough, Rebecca Sowers, Sierrah Taylor, and Katelyn Becker all recorded one shot on goal for the Wildcats. The Rams outshot the Wildcats, 18-8, for the match.
The Wildcats are back in action on Thursday as they head to LIU Post for a nonconference matchup. LIU Post was recently ranked fourth in the NSCAA East Region Poll on Tuesday. The game is slated for a 3:30 p.m. start.
