WOMEN'S BASKETBALL OPENS 21-22 SEASON WITH A WIN OVER MERCY COLLEGE
Sparkill, N.Y. (11/12/21) The Dominican College women’s basketball team opened the season with a non-conference win over the Mavericks of Mercy College in the 2021 STAC Conference Challenge.
Sparkill, N.Y. (11/12/21) The Dominican College women's basketball team opened the season with a non-conference win over the Mavericks of Mercy College in the 2021 STAC Conference Challenge. DC opened the season with an 86-79 victory.
The Chargers shot 49.2% from the field and 45.5% from three-point-range.
Taylor Tomlinson (Middletown, N.Y.) led the way with 20 points and added three rebounds and one assist. Khay'la Latimer (Teaneck, N.J.) finished with 14 points which included three three-pointers. Latimer also added a team-high six assists.
Alexis Suarez (Poughquag, N.Y.) scored ten points, and added two assists and two steals. Casey Carangelo (Thomaston, Conn.) added 11 points and a team-leading eight rebounds.
For the Mavericks, Katie Wall led the team with 24 points, six steals, five assists, and five rebounds. Taysha Bender scored 21 points while Kellie Nudd scored 13 points and pulled down seven rebounds.
Both teams played a close back and forth game. The Chargers and the Mavericks scored the same amount of points each in three of the four quarters. The Chargers outscored the Mavericks in the second quarter by seven points. DC pulled away in the fourth to help secure the win.
DC's bench outscored Mercy's bench 31-11 which was one of the differences in the game.
The Chargers will be back in action on Saturday, November 13th when they face St. Thomas Aquinas College at 3:00 PM.
