LADY CHARGERS CONCLUDE REGULAR SEASON WITH SPLIT OVER GEORGIAN COURT UNIVERSITY

Lakewood, N.J. (4/28/19) The Dominican College softball team concluded the regular season with a split over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent, Georgian Court University, in games played this afternoon at SEI Investments Field.
Game One: The Lady Chargers jumped out a 4-0 lead in the top of the first as a run scored on an Lion fielding error and designated player Alexandria Ledgerwood (Salem, Ore.) followed with a three-run blast over the centerfield fence.
GCU countered with three runs in their first at-bat of the day and added four more in the bottom of the second to pull ahead 7-4. The Lions scored a run in the fifth for the final 8-4 win.
Right fielder Samantha Fitzgerald (Fishkill, N.Y.) had two hits, while Ledgerwood finished with three RBI.
Starter Shelby Smith (Valley Center, Calif.) took the loss (9-5) in three and 2/3 innings of work. Senior Jennifer Paride (Stonington, Conn.) pitched the final two and 1/3 innings.
Game Two: Dominican got on the scoreboard in the top of the second as catcher Emily Luzetsky (Bel Air, Md.) produced a two out RBI single up-the-middle and added a run in the fourth as Alyssa Siess (Queens, N.Y.) hit a run-scoring double to left centerfield for the 2-0 advantage.
DC added to the lead in the fifth as they scored a run on an error and Fitzgerald followed with a grand slam over the left field fence to increase the lead to 7-0.
Georgian Court got on the scoreboard in their final at-bat with a two-run homerun to right centerfield.
With the split, Dominican ends the regular season with an overal record of 22-19 and a 17-9 CACC record.
The Lady Chargers have earned the fourth seed in the upcoming CACC Championships and will take on #5 Post University at 12pm on field #2 on the campus of Georgian Court University, host of the 2019 CACC Softball Championships.
