NEW CASTLE, Del. - - An eight-run sixth inning sent the Wilmington University baseball team to a 13-4 nonconference victory over Kutztown on Tuesday afternoon at Wilson Field.

Trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth, the Wildcats (16-6) loaded the bases with one out and eventually scored eight runs to overcome the Golden Bears (9-22). The Wildcats loaded the bases without an out in the bottom of the fifth, but couldn't score before following suit in the bottom of the sixth and coming through.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 3-0 lead through the first two innings, but the Golden Bears answered with a four-run top of the third.

With two-outs and a runner on second, John Mead hit a double inside the right field line in the top of the first, staring the scoring. Shawn Haut followed with a two-out single to left field, bringing in Mead for the 2-0 lead.

The Bears scored three times in the top of the third inning, as the first five batters reached base in the tinning. The visitors got on the board with a two-run single and then scored on a fielder's choice and a two-out single through the right side to give the Golden Bears a 4-3 lead.

The Wildcats loaded the bases without recording an out in the bottom of the fifth, but Quintin Ivy couldn't make the Bears pay by inducing a comebacker to the mound, and back-to-back pop-ups in leaving the inning unscathed.

But the Wildcats' offense came alive in the bottom of the sixth, batting around to a total of eight runs in the frame. Matt Warrington doubled in the first run of the inning and Quintin Ivy made it a 6-4 game with a bases loaded walk. Shawn Haut singled in a pair with a single into left field and then JJ Killen singled through the right side for another RBI. Matt Warrington came up with his second hit of the inning with an RBI single to right, putting the Wildcats ahead, 11-4.

Quintin Ivy then added to the score with a two-run blast to left in the bottom of the seventh inning, his eighth of the 2022 season.

The Wildcats finished with 13 runs on 14 hits, led by Quintin Ivy and Matt Warrington's three RBI day. Erik Grady, Ivy, Shawn Haut, and JJ Killen all finished with two hits each while Warrington led all with three hits.

The Wildcats take to the road for their next four games, as the Wildcats prepare to play Bloomfield and Felician this week. The Wildcats will play at Bloomfield on Wednesday in a doubleheader. The first pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
