The Charger offense got off to a hot start in the first seven minutes as they quickly took a 10-2 lead. Jefferson rallied to later tie the score at 15-all and then use a 15-4 run to turn the table and claim a 27-19 advantage with just under a minute left in the half. A dunk from freshman Tedrick Wilcox (Pawtucket, R.I.) closed out the first half scoring and cut the deficit to 30-23 at the break.
Jefferson would lead by as many as 10 points twice in the second frame, but Dominican charged back into the game with a 19-8 tear to regain a one point (50-49) lead with 9:10 left in regulation. Consecutive free throws from seniors Daraja Rodwell (Baldwin, N.Y.) and Tavon Ginyard (Brentwood, N.Y.) made the score 61-59 with 2:34 on the clock, but the Rams closed out the game on a 6-0 run (4-4 from the charity stripe) to go home with the 65-61 win.
At halftime of the contest, the team presented the annual Bobby Mulligan Memorial Scholarship to junior Donnell Hill (Staten Island, N.Y.).
Rodwell led two Chargers in double figures with 19 points (7-14 from the floor).
Senior Jason Copman (Cumberland, Md.) grabbed a game best and career high 16 rebounds to complete the double-double with 12 points.
Ginyard added nine points, while Jalen Burgess (Springfield Gardens, N.Y.) netted nine points and five caroms in the loss.
Dominican (12-5, 5-3 CACC) will travel to CACC North Division foe, Post University, this coming Tuesday evening.
