The game tipped-off day two of the 7th Annual Regina Rivera Memorial Tournament.
The Lady Chargers fall to 2-3 overall after the loss and the Purple Knights improve to 4-1overall.
The Purple Knights held a 15-6 lead over the Lady Chargers in the first quarter. DC responded with an 8-1 run to end the opening quarter. The Lady Chargers played a strong second quarter by outscoring the Purple Knights 23-13. DC held a 37-29 lead at halftime.
The Purple Knights got off to a hot start in the third quarter by using a 14-4 run to regain the lead back. The Lady Chargers answered back with a 13-4 run and held a 54-47 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The Purple Knights jumped out to a five-point lead late in the final quarter. DC fought back to cut the deficit to one when Jasmine Gee (Englewood, N.J.) nailed a three-pointer with twenty-five seconds remaining.
The Purple Knights extended the lead to 69-67 with twenty-one seconds remaining. Both teams traded free-throws down the stretch.
The Purple Knights held the 71-69 advantage when Jaid Harrell (Kingston, N.Y.) grabbed a rebound off of a missed free-throw and passed the ball up to teammate Naabea-Janaan Assibey-Bonsu (Central Islip, N.Y.) who took the final three-pointer at the buzzer that missed and the Purple Knights were able to hold onto the victory.
Gee finished the game with 12 points and seven boards for DC. Samantha McClutchy (Washington Township, N.J.) finished the game with 10 points. Bonsu added 11 points and recorded two assists.
Korina Guerra (White Plains, N.Y.) finished with eight points while Kyla Ramseur (Bloomfield, N.J.) added seven points, three rebounds, and two steals. Harrell recorded a team-high nine boards. Khay'la Latimer (Teaneck, N.J.) added five points and five rebounds.
For the Purple Knights, Taylor Miller recorded a double-double with 19 points and a team-high 17 rebounds. Nicole Anderson scored a team-leading 23 points and added six rebounds. Brianna Purcell scored 15 points and recorded eight rebounds and five assists. Nicole Ladas added eight points.
The Lady Chargers will be back in action on Wednesday, November 20th when they host the Caldwell University Cougars for the first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game of the season. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 5:30 PM.
